Impact of Human Intervention on Phosphorus Cycle
As the dominate species on Earth, we, as Humans, tend to follow a destructive path of nature. Most of the time, there is an adverse effect of human actions, thus interrupting nature's cycles. In the phosphorous cycle, the main pollution is from commercial fertilizer, which leads to eutrophication from the runoff. Eutrophication is the natural process by which bodies of water receive excess nutrients, thus stimulating excessive plant growth. The most phosphate runoff is from cutting down rain forests through the use of agricultural fertilizer.
We can prevent our detrimental actions before they worsen. Preventive actions that can be taken include lessening or limiting pesticides and fertilizers used in agriculture, cleaning our waste facilities and plants, and contributing to our role to living in a sustainable environment.
